I am getting poor print quality and occasionally the ribbons break.

This is usually caused by using paper designed for an inkjet
printer.
Inkjet paper is generally coated to be able to accept the liquid
inks.
The coat helps reduce smearing and promotes drying time.
OKI DP printers use a thermal transfer process to bond ink to the
paper.
The thermal transfer causes our ribbons to stick to the paper or
have a poor transfer of ink.
The result is poor print quality at best, and broken cartridges to
damaged print heads at worst.
Do not use INKJET paper in your OKI DP printer.
